SC falls, NL wins in season openers

WEST SALEM — The South Central girls basketball team opened the season with a 55-17 non-league loss against host Northwestern on Saturday.

The Trojans got seven points from Sydney Middaugh and six from Kaili Ingram in the loss.

South Central is off for a week ahead of a non-league game on Nov. 30 at Edison.

New London 51, Huron 42

HURON — The Firelands Conference favorite Wildcats saw a 13-point second-half lead get cut down to three points before holding off the host Tigers on Saturday.

New London led 13-7 after one quarter and 28-15 at halftime. However, foul trouble with its six-player roster saw the Tigers pull within 37-30 after three, and later to within a possession in the final quarter.

The Wildcats got a game-high 19 points from Olivia Yetter in the win. Valery Henry scored 10 points, while Gracie Thomas had eight points and Pailee Wilson added seven.

New London will host Colonel Crawford on Friday.
